The "meme" of Nixon as a "power hungry" but ineffective Vice President, is simply non-sense. The only problem in l958, is that no American would ever have believed their govt was utilizing political assassination as a "tool" in its war on Communism and the UK..
Nixon was "deep" in the internal and external "espionage" division for the newly formed (1947) National Security Counsel. Keep in mind, Nixon was VP and in his position for Eight long years, when the "crucible" of US intervention and assassination was at it's "hottest".
The Congressional "reforms" of the 70's and 80's never outlawed political assassination they only "privatized" it. That means, the "hit" on Kennedy was a "private" matter...as was the hit on Castro.
Why were we so determined to get rid of the governments in Iran and Iraq in the l950's? Because they had both been created by the British Government and we learned some very interesting "things" about the connection between the "Mossad" and the Brits.
We needed to removed Mossadeq in Iran and Nixon took out Crown Prince Faisal II which really pissed off the Saudi Royal family in Saudi Arabia..because he was a nephew of the Saudi King. (Bad idea!) Faisal was replaced with Major-General Qasim. On 14 July 1958, (according to an article in Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdul_Karim_Qassim) Qasim and his followers used troop movements planned by the government as an opportunity to seize military control of Baghdad and overthrew the monarchy (Much like the US Govt used planned military exercizes preparing for hijackings in the New York Area were used as a subterfuge).
The first thing Qasim did was to assert Iraqi sovereignty over Kuwait in l959. (By the way...Kuwait has ALWAYS been associated with Iraqi terroritory because it provides Iraq with direct access to Persian Gulf shipping).
I wonder if Bush is actually trying to put an end to the Saddam Husseins and the Mossadeqs of the middle east and "countering" the Secret UK/US plans to manipulate the middle east until the end of time...by creating a "Democracy"? a "sovereign power". Is Bush doing the right thing in Iraq?
Well, even if he is..it won't last 30 minutes if "Al Qaeda is actually The Israeli Mossad">
