The vast majority of researchers all make the same mistake when interpreting the "Treaty of Paris" that ended the Revolutionary War...at least the 1st Revolutionary War. The Treaty clealy states that the King of ENgland releases all claims to all lands within a certain area..."comprehending all islands within twenty leagues of any part of the shores of the United States". The problem is.."the United States is defined as the 13 Norther Eastern colonies". Doesn't include Florida!
In fact, Florida was an "ally" of the British during the War, from which Britain launched most spy missions.
"His Brittanic Majesty acknowledges the said United States, viz., New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, to be free sovereign and independent states...." (No Florida..therefore..the Islands OFF Florida were reserved.) even "Cape Canaveral" is British Territory.
But for the scary part...the King apparently specifically NEVER intended to declare a cessation of hostilites with any terroritories in the future~. IN other words, the Peace Treaty was JUST for the 13 original states...it's Katie Bar the Door in the Territories! Do I smell Revolutionary War #3?
There shall be a firm and perpetual peace between his Brittanic Majesty and the said states, and between the subjects of the one and the citizens of the other, wherefore all hostilities both by sea and land shall from henceforth cease. (Didn't mention territories")
Florida was "British/Spanish" Territory. Florida entered the Revolutionary War on the Side of the British! The ONLY New World territory to do that! So, was Jeb the British "Governor General?"
No wonder, you don't have to count the vote in Florida! It's just a "sham" anyway! That leaves Texas...was NEVER a State..signed a separate Peace Treaty with the UK after the Spanish/American War! Texas is NOT a US State.
